A practical companion for spending an autumn living in Basel rather than visiting it. The proposed season runs from 1 September to 27 November 2027, based in Gundeldingen behind Basel SBB. The book covers the apartment, markets, running, transport, healthcare, guests and the harvest country across three borders, then asks the decisive question: does the ordinary week still work in November, when it is dark by five?
We chose Basel. You live it.
This companion begins where the Fall Home Index ended. Six places were examined for an autumn away. Basel finished first, but not by a distance. The surprise was not October. It was that the whole proposition held together: a furnished apartment could still be found in Gundeldingen, the ordinary week remained complete, the regional network reached three countries, and November did not break the life.
You live behind Basel SBB, in the interior blocks around Winkelriedplatz. You buy food at the Gundelitor and at two weekly markets. You run up to the Bruderholz from the front door, use the illuminated central river sections when the evenings disappear, and treat the U-Abo as a key to the Baselbiet, the German border country and the French network around Saint-Louis. The Harvest Country chapter shows where that pass stops and where another ticket begins.
Six working plates show how the life fits together. Six photographs, all taken by the author in Basel in September 2026, show the city in use rather than as a destination. Research is current through 23 September 2026; details that will change before autumn 2027 are collected in Reference under Confirm before booking.
Hoc est opus. Et satis est.
